The weekend included a Half-Marathon\/Half-Marathon Relay, 10 kilometer Run and Fun Bike Ride through the hills of Sankampeang, as well as a Human Rights Awareness Dinner held at Kantary Hills Hotel in Chiang Mai.<\/p><p><b>2010 \u2013 2nd Trio For Justice<\/b><br \/> On November 14th, 2010, BABSEACLE, formally a program of BABSEA, held the Second Annual Trio For Justice, with a Half Marathon\/Relay, 10 kilometer and Donation Bike event. This gathering brought together people from a wide mix of cultures to enjoy the scenic beauty of Samkampaeng and to run and ride to support social justice.<\/p><p>\u201cThe Trio For Justice was successful in building bridges with the local community, visitors from abroad and Chiang Mai residents working together,\u201d according to event spokesperson and BABSEACLE Thailand Office Deputy Director, Mr. Naruedol Wannarat. He explained that we could not have organized the Trio without the help from our partners and the community, who provided the ambulance, nursing staff, police support, and food and water.<\/p><p>The events took participants through the rainforest, alongside lakes and mountains and through a reforestation project, ending at Meaphahaen School, which had been a BABSEACLE supported partner.<\/p><p>Meaphahaen School was delighted to receive a number of bicycled donated by participants of this year\u2019s Trio. The bicycles have been used by students to travel to and from school. Most of the students at the school were orphans from Northern ethnic minority communities.<\/p><p>Participants in the Trio For Justice also helped to raise funds for social justice causes in the region, including: prisoner rights, juvenile justice, discrimination, citizen rights, statelessness, environmental issues, access to health care, sex worker rights, child rights, and helping to build university based Community Legal Education (CLE) programs.<\/p><p>\u201cWe are very grateful for the support of BABSEACLE partners at this year\u2019s event \u2013 including the students who joined us from Chiang Mai Juvenile Detention Centre; the women from Wildflower Single Mothers Home; and the Powerhouse Gym staff who helped with logistic support,\u201d Mr. Wannarat said.<\/p><p>\u201cNext year we hope to attract even more supporters by engaging a range of other organizations involved in social justice,\u201d And went on \u201cFor those who participated, the event combined a fun day with the chance to really make a difference for the most socially disadvantaged in our community.\u201d<\/p><p><b>2011 \u2013 3rd Trio For Justice<\/b><br \/> On November 13th 2011, BABSEACLE held the 3rd Trio For Justice with the first-ever Access to Justice Public Interest Fair on November 12th. The 3rd Trio For Justice was supported by sponsors like Energizer, Buzwoo!Asia, the HRBA A2J Asian Consortium, the Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE), and so many more.<\/p><p>2011\u2019s Trio For Justice was a Half-Marathon Run, 10K Run, 5K Fun Walk, and a Duathlon. That year, the event had been \u201cbookended\u201d by a CLE skills workshop for participating law students and law lecturers from northern Thailand. The skills session had focused on interviewing clients and clinic supervision procedures, with the Thai participants being joined by BABSEACLE\u2019s CLE team from Laos.<\/p><p>More than 160 people ran, biked, and walked in the 3rd Trio For Justice under the beautiful blue skies in Sankampaeng. After the event, CLE fellow Souliya Svithongthai gave a presentation describing the start-up of the CLE clinic at the National University of Laos. Svithongthai\u2019s fellowship at the Univesity\u2019s Faculty of Law and Political Science CLE program was supported by BABSEACLE and the Australian law firm, Freehills (Now Herbert Smith Freehills). Bruce Lasky, Co-Director of BABSEACLE, described the organization\u2019s many projects throughout the region before announcing that the first $5,000 raised by the Trio For Justice would go to support the opening of the CLE clinic in Vientiane. We are proud to say that we raised enough money, with support of Freehills Law Firm Singapore consultation clinic.<\/p><p><b>2013 \u2013 4th Trio For Justice<\/b><br \/> BABSEACLE and BABSEACLE Foundation held the 4th Trio For Justice on January 13th at Huey Tueng Tao Park. In addition to holding a Half-Marathon, 10K and 5K Run\/Walk, there was also an additional 3K Run\/Walk mini event for kids supervised by members of Wat Sai Moon Myanmar.<\/p><p>Like the previous Trios, the 4th Trio For Justice aimed to raise awareness of access-to-justice issues in the region and give an opportunity for the local and international community to meet our team and partners. Besides networking, the event\u2019s main purpose was to raise funds for, implement, and support many of BABSEACLE and BABSEACLE Foundation\u2019s university-based Clinical Legal Education (CLE) programs.<\/p><p>The 4th Trio For Justice was supported by donations of raffle prizes and money, the local Thailand municipality as well as advertising benefits by organizations, law firms and businesses both at the local and international level.<br \/> There were 150 participants coming from all over the globe. We also had the support of 30 volunteers who assisted in many ways from distributing water to giving directions on the track.<\/p><p><strong>2014 - 5th Trio For Justice<\/strong><\/p><p>On 12 January 2014 over 400 runners, walkers and volunteers from all corners of the world took part in a Half Marathon, 10K and 5K run\/walk as well as a 3K fun run\/walk. These events make up the Trio For Justice, a family-friendly event that is now in its fifth year and hosted by the not-for-profit access to justice and legal education organization, Bridges Across Borders Southeast Asia Community Legal Education Initiative (BABSEACLE) and BABSEACLE Foundation.<\/p><p>The 5th\u00a0Trio For Justice was attended by many of BABSEACLE\u2019s and BABSEACLE Foundation\u2019s partners, sponsors, volunteers and members of the general public from Thailand as well as international participants coming in from as far away as Australia, the USA, Germany, Hungary, Hong Kong, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Canada, to name a few. Some of the sponsors present were Herbert Smith Freehills, International Thai Foundation, Tai Tais Without Borders and Chiang Mai Lanna Business Service.<\/p><p>This years Trio For Justice raised over 710,000 Baht (US$ 24,500), which will go towards funding BABSEACLE and BABSEACLE Foundation\u2019s many projects, and those of their partners, aimed at widening access to justice and supporting the development of justice\/clinical legal education in the region.<\/p><p>The 5th\u00a0Trio For Justice was an all-inclusive fun event for runners, walkers and volunteers however, there were some excellent achievements and times recorded in each of the events. The winner of the Half Marathon was Corona Leibner with a time of 1.39.06, Patrick Henry came first in the 10K with a time of 00.51.05 and John Kosihish came first in the 5K in 0.24.38.<\/p><p>The 5th\u00a0Trio For Justice was attended by people of all ages and nationalities, including many students from local schools as well as a group of students from the Northern School for the Blind under the Patronage of the Queen. Before each of the runs we held a warm up aerobics class which everyone got involved with and the runs were followed by a raffle and a quiz about the work of BABSEACLE and its partners as well as the meaning of access to justice and legal education.<\/p><p>The 5th\u00a0Trio For Justice was preceded by the Pre Trio Dinner held at the BABSEACLE house the night before the run. The dinner offered an opportunity to meet other runners, become familiarized with both BABSEACLE and BABSEACLE Foundation, and the Trio For Justice, as well as providing a hearty meal in preparation for the next days running and walking. The dinner was fully organized and run by volunteers and team members from both BABSEACLE and BABSEACLE Foundation, with help from women from the local Myanmar temple Wat Sai Moon.\u00a0There were cultural performances, speeches from partners and presentations about some of the projects BABSEACLE and BABSEACLE Foundation are involved in.<\/p><p><strong>2015 - 6th Trio For Justice<\/strong><\/p><p>On 10 January 2015\u00a0runners, walkers and volunteers from all corners of the world took part in a Half Marathon, 10K and 5K run\/walk as well as a 3K fun run\/walk. These events make up the Trio For Justice, a family-friendly event that is now in its fifth year and hosted by the not-for-profit access to justice and legal education organization, Bridges Across Borders Southeast Asia Community Legal Education Initiative (BABSEACLE) and BABSEACLE\u00a0Foundation.
